New Tutor — Miss Allison

We are pleased to announce the addition of a new tutor at Reading Window School. Allison Hollins will soon be fully trained in our tutoring methods and will be ready to accept her own students starting in January of next year.

Allison has been working with many children at various grade levels, learning new skills that help make reading easier, faster, and more fun for children for whom reading has been a struggle. This will allow Reading Window School to reach even more students who have fallen below their grade level in reading.

Allison is already proving to be a great asset to our school. The kids love “Miss Allison,” and she has a special knack for connecting with kids of all ages and backgrounds.

A great big welcome to Miss Allison! We look forward to many years together helping to make a difference in children’s lives!

Photocopier Needed

Reading Window continues to reach out to the community by helping children to read with understanding and enjoyment. Our commitment to keeping tuition low means that we must sometimes ask the community for support. Our photocopier has been on its “last leg” for about two years and needs to be replaced! Please contact us if you have one available or would like to make a monetary donation towards the purchase of one. It will be very useful and greatly appreciated.

Thanks to the generosity of Louisa County Moose Lodge #2065, the Reading Window School is now offering partial scholarships to two Pre-K or Kindergarten level children who may be at risk of falling below their grade level in reading.

The Reading Window specializes in intensive 6-week reading programs that rapidly change patterns for young children who struggle with the written word, so that reading becomes a fun-filled, happy time at school and at home. For more information about scholarship programs and/or registering your child, phone Sherri Rosser at 540-872-1998.

The local donation that benefits children in Louisa County is part of the wider Moose program, which through community service and monetary donations supports organizations whose primary focus is youth and the elderly. Support from Moose International includes the operation of Mooseheart Child City & School, a 1000-acre community for children and teens in need of a stable home, and Moosehaven, a retirement community for its members.

Reading Window School is also now making available, through its website at www.readingwindow.org, a free download of their beginner book, Dog and dog-cat, along with tips on how to teach your child to read. To request your free copy, visit the website and click on “Free Book” or phone Piper Martin at 540-872-1999

Beginning Saturday July 24th 9:30 ~ 11:30 am – a new service is being offered by Piper Martin at the Reading Window in Louisa, VA.

Would you like your youngster to enjoy and excel in school? Children love the way we teach reading (plus a bit of math and spelling) at the non-profit Reading Window School. If you don’t already know us, we have about 150 testimonials from parents and teachers about the rapid progress children make with our special methods while they have fun. They are eager to return for the next lesson.

For those who are unable to bring your child for daily weekday lessons in Louisa, Piper is offering a class on Saturday mornings to teach the basics – good for all ages — and to explain ways to have lessons at home be enjoyable for both parent and child from the very first day of using Reading Window methods.

The follow-up between each Saturday class will be individualized (by phone or visits to your home and/or individually scheduled visits to the Reading Window) designed specifically for your own child.

The cost is negotiable. Piper is volunteering her time and skills and needs payment only for out of pocket expenses like transportation and phone calls. Phone Piper at 540-872-1999 for more information and to enroll. Minimum enrollment in the class is 3. Maximum is 10. Enrolling early will help make this happen. Tell your friends and neighbors!

I’ve decided to transform February’s problems (see February Newsletter) into a new Reading Window experiment. I’m offering a new 5-week program – just 25 times to travel to a lesson, in 5 weeks, instead of the usual 30 times in 6 weeks – but each lesson will be a full 60 minutes instead of the usual 50 minutes, and parents will be requested to follow up with at least 15 minutes daily reading with a reading-window (instead of the usual 10 minutes) at home. If you prefer our standard 6-week, $600, program instead of the new 5-week program at $800, the standard program is definitely still available.

As with most experiments, I’m expecting that I’ll need extra prep time and extra follow-up and notes. This offer is limited to children in Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade or 3rd grade. As is true for all our RWSch experiments, this is fully guaranteed. The result will be at least 6 months advance in grade level in just 5 weeks, or I will continue with more lessons at no additional cost and refund the cost of your transportation. *

For more information and to register for either program phone Piper Martin at (540) 872-1999 or reach me at: pi23read at yahoo.com

* Our usual 3-day full refund guarantee is, of course, still in place. If after the first 3 sessions (consecutive days) the child, the parent, or the tutor would prefer not to continue, RWSch will immediately refund the full tuition. This guarantee is only valid if the 3 days are consecutive (for example: Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday; or Wednesday, Thursday, Friday; etc. If needed, I’m even open to Saturday or Sunday lessons.).

So, I finally sent this brief e-mail (below) to all who gave me their e-addresses.

We’re running into frustrating problems trying to put a check-box in the comments section allowing people to choose whether or not to receive replies to their comments via email. Hopefully, this issue will be worked out soon to avoid future confusion.

***************************************

This is a 1-time e-mail unless you reply to me by e-mail (pi23read at yahoo.com) or by phone (540-872-1999).

I was totally sincere about offering 1 free trial telephone tutoring lesson (up to 45 minutes). I’d need the age and first name of the child you are tutoring or want to tutor.
