February 2010 Newsletter — written in early March

February was part of a long, hard winter, with roads and schools closed frequently, electricity, computers and phones off for days at a time. Under those circumstances, our usual high standard of intensive, daily, rapid reading improvement could not be achieved. We had to try to be satisfied with mere maintenance and a bit of improvement for most of the month.

I’m delighted to see spring crocuses today, heralding continued warmer weather and the end of winter’s unique transportation problems.

In just 6 weeks, children struggling with reading become happy, enthusiastic readers! Their skills improve at least 1/2 year's worth. Our tutors work one-to-one with a child, while also empowering a parent or guardian to help the child reach success. Each session consists of 30 hour-long lessons. Our methods build self-confidence and increase comprehension while we all have FUN! Need-based scholarships are now available through a grant from the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation.
