Our Mission

Our mission is to enable every child to read with understanding and enjoyment. We prevent and reverse schoolroom failure through efficient methods of teaching children and by coaching families in new ways to read together. Our goals are to serve children without regard for family income, and to mount a research study to help determine whether the Reading Window methods should be introduced into the USA public schools.

The Reading Window methods, created by Piper Martin, are remarkably fast, effective, delight-filled, economical ways of teaching reading, now being used at a nonprofit school in Louisa, Virginia. We are actively seeking ways to disseminate our know-how to other educators, parents and care givers.

Piper Martin has written a simple children’s book, Dog and dog-cat, designed for a young child’s enjoyment and understanding and for efficient use of the simple reading-windows. The book includes templates on the last page to guide you in creating your own reading-windows. Get your free copy of Dog and dog-cat and you can immediately begin to benefit from this breakthrough reading method! A flexible blending of new teaching techniques with time-tested methods, this way of transmitting literacy has removed barriers for the dyslexic and learning-impaired, has given challenged children six months’ grade level improvement in just six weeks, and has been quite successful at moving average students into “Talented and Gifted” classes. We use much the same methods for remedial reading with older children, and it works — though not with the spectacularly swift transformations that we see in preschool, kindergarten, and first-grade children. Our primary means of instruction is six weeks of daily private tutoring sessions for each child, with a tutor who is fully trained in using Reading Window methods. Paradoxically, this appears more cost-effective than full reliance on the classroom. Whenever possible, we encourage and teach families to read together with enjoyment and understanding.

Children love this way of learning.
